ExpressYourself explodes the myth of young people with mental illness or youth at risk and allows them to explore art as a path towards a healthy sense of self identity, belonging, and feeling valued for their artistic contributions. More than 150 young people per year emerge from a sense of isolation in hospitals, residential programs and community settings to a strong sense of collaboration and celebration in a thriving multi-disciplinary art community. Underserved youth from the community also join in the collaboration. A strong committed team of culturally diverse artists attract well known celebrities who become part of the working model leading to a celebratory performance at the Wang Center for the Performing Arts in May.
The grand performance is attended by friends, families, case workers and the invited public.
